The Top Benefits of Microneedling

The Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Health Center states that after the age of 20, skin collagen production decreases by 1% each year. Collagen is a protein responsible for keeping skin hydrated and firm, so a reduction in its production leads to fine lines and wrinkles, as well as other skin conditions.

At BevelUp, one of the most effective treatment options we offer to fight back against collagen reduction is microneedling. Learn more about how microneedling works and why it can be beneficial.

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses very thin needles to create tiny pricks in the skin.

These punctures encourage your body’s natural healing process, creating new, collagen-rich tissue while also boosting elastin production. The new skin has a more even tone and texture and looks firmer and better hydrated.

Microneedling works to correct many skin concerns, including:

  • Acne
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Reduced skin elasticity
  • Sun damage

At our center, we use the Rejuvapen NXT device as well as Aquagold Fine Touch for our microneedling treatment to maximize the benefits you receive.

The Rejuvapen NXT device is one of the top microneedling devices available today. It has 12 micro-needles that create tiny channels in the skin in a specific formation to avoid tearing the dermis layer during the procedure.

We also use Aquagold Fine Touch, a gold-plated micro-injection system that delivers solutions to your skin at the ideal depth to reach the dermis layer. We can fill the reservoir in this device with solutions tailored to your needs, including vitamins, plant extracts, hormones, Botox, and dermal fillers.

The best candidates for microneedling treatment are people in overall good health who have skin concerns that have not responded well to other treatment options like chemical peels.

If you have active acne or an infection, we’ll postpone treatment until your skin heals. If you have wound-healing concerns or if you are pregnant or nursing, we’ll find an alternative option.

Benefits of Microneedling

There are numerous benefits you can take advantage of when you choose microneedling. For one thing, it is minimally invasive, requiring very little downtime and allowing you to get back to your life almost immediately afterward.

Microneedling treatment is also appropriate for all skin types. Unlike laser treatments, which use heat and can affect skin pigmentation, this is a good option for people with dark or light skin tones.

One of the most important benefits of microneedling is that it helps with the cause of the skin concerns you may have. By stimulating the creation of new skin tissue and increasing collagen production, your skin can look rejuvenated. Microneedling encourages elastin production, making your skin more flexible and giving it more bounce.

Microneedling can help with sun damage as well, reversing the effects of UV rays on your skin. It’s also a more affordable choice than more invasive treatment options.

An additional benefit is that microneedling can also boost the effects of skin care products. The tiny pricks the needles make allow for better product absorption.

How to Prepare for Your Microneedling Treatment

The first thing you have to do is schedule a consultation with us. During this appointment, we will look at the areas you want to treat, evaluate your overall health, and obtain a medical history. Let us know of any medications you take and tell us about your skin care routine and the products you use.

We ask that people who are acne-prone and use isotretinoin-based oral medications or other retinoids stop them at least six months before the microneedling procedure.

At least 72 hours before treatment, stop taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin and ibuprofen. Limit your exposure to the sun and avoid using abrasive skin care products like exfoliants, retinol, and topical acids, for at least 48 hours before your appointment.

At least two weeks before treatment, avoid cosmetic procedures like dermal fillers or Botox injections.

On the day of the procedure, you want to arrive with a clean face and no makeup. We will apply a numbing cream to the entire treatment area and allow it to take effect, which can take up to 30 minutes. We will then begin treatment.

Depending on the type of skin issue you want to resolve, we will come up with a treatment plan. For simpler conditions, like large pores, you can start seeing results after just one session. For more severe conditions, you may need up to six sessions.

We usually schedule microneedling sessions four to six weeks apart to give your skin time to heal.

For optimal results, you want to apply sunscreen every day after treatment, and use moisturizing lotions. We recommend you avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after the procedure. We also advise you to avoid exercising and direct exposure to sunlight for at least three days.

You do not want to use exfoliating skin tools for a week and do not schedule any other cosmetic procedures for at least two weeks after your microneedling treatment. To help your skin look its best, stay hydrated and limit caffeine and alcohol.

Choose Microneedling for More Youthful Skin

Turning to microneedling treatments can help your skin regain its hydration levels and its firmness with boosts of collagen and elastin production, while also treating skin conditions like hyperpigmentation and acne.
